| Gareth and Jason Allred |
I am Gareth Gobey and I am currently caddying for Jason Allred fulltime on the Nationwide Tour. We are currently in Bogota, Columbia and it has been an amazing week so far. From getting escorted around by the police to getting lost in the middle of the city for an hour with our driver to getting hailed on at the golf course, it has been quite an adventure!
Q: What do you remember most from your summer as a Mission 4:33 or anything cool that God did during that time?
During Mission 4:33 the thing I remember most was the people that I met. All the people involved in the camps that I went to were so incredible and the friendships that I built were life changing. Matt Roop and Dawn Santo had a massive impact in my life and in my walk with God. They were the most amazing encouragement and I have never met two people with such servant hearts. It humbled me to my core! They taught me so much about how to love on people and how to be the best servant that I can be. They truly impacted my life in a huge way.
Q: What is your favorite part about caddying?
This is my first time caddying and it has been an absolute blast. I was so extremely nervous on the first hole I almost walked backwards into a player while he was getting ready to hit. Great start! My favorite part would be that the pressure is not on me to perform and that I get to be so involved without all the added pressure and expectations, which is nice.
Q: What is your least favorite part about caddying?
My least favorite part about caddying would be that I can’t play. I went to college for golf so I would love to be out there competing. It is also hard that you are not in control and that it is all up to how your player performs which can be tough.
Q: What are your strengths as a caddy?
I think it is a strength that I have a golf background so Jason is trustworthy on my judgment when picking clubs or reading lines. I really enjoy encouraging people so I think and hope that that is helpful to my player while he is playing really well or really badly.
Q: What is currently your favorite Bible verse and why?
Galatians 5:22-24 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.” This verse has really stuck out to me lately and I am trying to memorize it on the course in between shots. It sticks out to me so much because following Christ is not about following a set of rules but rather entering into a personal relationship with Him that produces life giving qualities such as the fruit of the Spirit. It is so awesome that He is producing these things in me as He draws me closer to Himself even though I completely do not deserve it!
